Hi, I’m Libby Nation.

Helping students achieve musical success is one of my greatest joys. I’ve guided hundreds of students, from beginners to full-time professionals. I believe it’s important to make learning music fun from the start. This is something I’ve learned as a long time music educator and professional musician, having toured and performed on stages in London, Paris, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Japan, China, Argentina, Canada, and throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Ryman Auditorium, The Hollywood Palladium, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Jay Leno Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and more.

Let me help you reach your musical potential through online lessons and courses that benefit for a lifetime.

Libby Nation is a FIVE STAR music instructor who I heartedly endorse. I’ve worked with her for three years and I see our lessons continuing long into the future. My musical tastes are a bit eclectic and Libby has been a huge inspiration and asset in all of my pursuits. As I switch between acoustic and electric guitar, piano, bass, and voice, we work on songs which peak my interest, understanding the music theory behind the song, while also improving my technique. Libby is a true joy to learn from and will encourage you in your musical journey!
— Scott T. Adult Student, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Piano, Singing
I have always wanted to play an instrument, how many of us have said that? After many failed attempts, across many years, I was lucky to became one of Libby’s students. Five years later, because of her talent, deep knowledge of music, skill as a teacher and kindness I am still playing and practicing. I always look forward to my lessons. She has a real gift as a teacher and her joy in music is evident. All those songs you love, you will play them! Throw any song at her and she will teach you how to play it and finesse as you improve.
— Cynde S. Adult Student, Ukulele
I was in my sixties when I began taking lessons. This was my first attempt at playing an instrument and I needed a teacher who was patient, kind and encouraging. I found that person when I met Libby Nation. Seven years have gone by, and I am still taking lessons and cannot believe how far I have progressed. I feel joy when I play the banjo and I credit Libby with encouraging me to believe that the ability to play music is in all of us.
— Sandy B. Adult Student, Banjo
I love taking lessons with Libby. I’ve been a student for over 3 years. She’s very knowledgeable and explains techniques in an easy to digest way. I like the virtual lessons so I can keep up with my schedule regardless of where I am, and the online portal helps stay on track with practice. I would recommend Libby to beginners or experienced musicians.
— Jane F. Adult Student, Singing
Sometimes you are blessed in your life to have an extraordinary teacher, and I have found such a gift in Libby Nation. She is not only an extremely talented musician, but a kind patient and supportive coach and teacher. She had been my songwriting coach for over 5 years. And every week she amazes me! She can pick up any instrument and begin playing the minute I bring her a song! I can bring her an inspiration song and say I want it to sound like...fill in the blank...and she knows exactly who and what I mean. My coaching session with her is the highlight of my week! I know I am going to see her smiling face and have her knowledge and talent and enthusiasm to support and guide my songwriting journey. I could go on for pages about how she has improved my songwriting ability. Don’t hesitate, book Libby!
— Patti W. Adult Student, Songwriting
Libby’s wide knowledge of music and her extensive experience as a performer give her excellent credentials; on top of that, she comes from a family of accomplished musicians. But what makes her a truly great teacher are her love of music, the care and patience she gives her students, and the humor and good nature she shows in all situations. I considered myself an adequate amateur player, but under Libby’s tutelage I have come to realize how little I knew. In spite of that, Libby has never been anything but positive, and I have learned more in the last few years with her than in the decades of trying to teach myself. I highly recommend Libby Nation as a music teacher, whether you are a beginner or an advanced player. Working with her will sharpen your own knowledge and skills.
— Mike W. Adult Student, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass
Libby brings to each and every class a fresh approach to learning music. She has knowledge, background, interest, patience, and ability. She has the temperament for encouraging practice but not making it onerous. She offers up suggestions for coping with troublesome, music learning speed bumps. I can show up to my lesson with literally ANY fretted instrument, and she has suggestions for how to approach it and to advance with it. I have had several music teachers over the years, but Libby Nation is the best. By far.
— Dennis B. Adult Student, Mandolin
I have been working with Libby for 13 years, and she has made such a difference in my life as a piano teacher and mentor. Libby is one of a kind! Her versatility as a musician is unbelievable. She can play every instrument, from the mandolin to the piano to the drums, and she’s even better at teaching them to her students. Having played with countless bands throughout her career, Libby has picked up many tricks and techniques for learning music quickly. By teaching those tricks to her students, she makes what can sometimes be tedious a more straightforward and fun process.
Having Libby as a teacher is great because she keeps things engaging and fun. She ensures that the students learn what they want instead of constantly spending multiple lessons working on complex pieces they don’t like. As someone who predominantly plays by ear, this has allowed me to become a much better pianist. Libby’s teaching philosophy has helped me improve my strengths as a musician and also discover new artists and genres of music that I now listen to all the time.
Aside from the music, Libby is just a fantastic person to talk to about anything. She is more than happy to take time out of a lesson to give me helpful life advice. I am in college now and have continued to do lessons via Zoom. I look forward to my time with Libby and am so lucky to continue working with her each week.
— Barrett H. College Student, Piano
Libby Nation is more than a gifted musician. She’s an exceptional teacher and human being. She brings energy and creativity to every lesson, skillfully weaving technique and even storytelling about well-known musical artists with an approach tailored to the individual student. If my son discovers a song that he wants to play or sing, Libby utilizes this interest to deepen his understanding and expand his repertoire. We never remind our son to practice; he is motivated because of the joy that Libby cultivates around music. Revealing her genuine care for students, Libby rarely starts a lesson talking about music. She organically connects with youth by asking good questions, discussing interests, or sharing a good laugh as a prelude to song. Growth as a musician and vocal artist naturally follows. It is a beautiful and resounding process to witness as parents.
